The Bulmershe School Science Department opened its doors to 20 year 5 students in the autumn term for a very special after school science club led by teachers Miss Bishop and Mrs Grier.

Over six weeks students improved their existing science knowledge and tried their hand at a host of exciting and fun scientific experiments. During the six week programme, students were able to sample a broad spectrum of science subjects, challenging their current concepts of “The Mad Scientist” by becoming scientists themselves.

Over the six weeks students took part in a fantastic range of experiences:

  • They became Material Scientists - by investigating and testing properties of different materials.
  • They learnt how to be Micro-biologists – by investigating and looking at cells under a microscope.
  • They learnt how to analyse whether a substance is an acid or an alkali.
  • They were lighting engineers understanding the different properties of light.
  • They became food scientists conducting investigations into different food types.
  • They were Chemists, completing chemical reactions and investing the difference between chemical and physical reactions.

Students enjoyed their afternoons immensely; we look forward to seeing their names published in scientific journals in the future.
