On Friday 4th October Microsoft sent more than 30 of their staff to The Bulmershe School for an event that would prove invaluable for Sixth Form students.

Every sixth form student in the school prepared a cover letter, CV or personal statement for their respective interview with a current employee at Microsoft. The auditorium was laid out to accommodate each round of interviews and students dressed in their most suitable clothing to impress their Microsoft interviewer.

Interviews were based on a review of the document provided and students faced a 15-minute interview that assessed their first impressions, enthusiasm, leadership qualities, organisation skills among other areas. Following the interview staff wrote their feedback on a form that students will use this week to review how they performed and what they could improve on moving forwards.

Some students, visibly nervous on the day, have since expressed how useful this process was and others simply acknowledging it was good experience for the stages of life that are fast approaching them.

Microsoft provided two fine staff members to oversee the process, ex-students from Bulmershe, Sam Jacobs and Lauren Bala, two students who have taken on apprenticeships at the company following their education at the school and are clearly thriving in their new surroundings. We would like to offer a massive thank you for their time, commitment and contribution to the sixth form.

Moving forward, the best students, selected by Microsoft staff will be offered an opportunity to visit the Microsoft offices in the near future for work experience.
