The Bulmershe School has a thriving Music Department with three specialist Music teachers on the staff. Students study Music in every year from Year 7 through to the Sixth Form. There are GCSE groups in Years 10 & 11 and a group of students studying BTEC Music Performing in Year 12. We have two well-equipped Music rooms, a recording studio and a variety of smaller rehearsal spaces. These are in regular use, not only for lessons but also for our team of visiting Peripatetic Instrumental teachers from Berkshire Maestros. Lessons are available in: Voice, Drum Kit and Tuned Percussion, Woodwind, Guitar, Brass, Piano and Keyboard. Where there is a demand, other instrumental learning opportunities can be added to this list.

Extra-Curricular Activities

The Music Department is open before school, at break, lunch time and after school and students have the opportunity to perform to friends and parents on a regular basis. Groups can rehearse on their own or as a more formal instrumental or vocal group with staff or sixth form support. There are two main vocal groups: The Bulmershe Singers made up mostly of Lower School students and The Bulmershe Ensemble – a group of KS4 and 5 students who have performed at the Hexagon and at a variety of other concerts and plan to go on tour and enter more competitions in the next academic year. There is also an instrumental group which meets after school on a weekly basis. We have strong links with the Drama and Dance Departments and this enables us to produce whole-school Christmas musicals such as Grease, Little Shop of Horrors, Billy Elliott and Les Miserables.

For further details about all musical activities, trips to concerts and preparation for performances please see a member of the Music Department.
