Technology use and mental health

On Wednesday evening, five of our Y12 Psychology students attended an evening lecture at Queen Anne’s School by Dr Amy Orben, a University of Cambridge psychologist, who delivered a talk on how social media impacts teen mental health. She explained what her scientific team have found and how their work impacts broader society. Her talk covered controversial issues including the question of whether too much time on social media is actually having a negative impact on teen mental health? The answer – it’s more complicated than we think!

“I particularly found the part about radio and television interesting and how, at the time they were introduced, they caused parents to have similarly fearful reactions about their impact on children as phones do now!” - Rachel
