Activities for Year 5

At The Bulmershe School, we understand that Year 5 is an important time for pupils and their families as they start thinking about secondary school options. To support this process, we invite Year 5 pupils from local Woodley primary schools to join us for enrichment activities designed to help them feel more confident about their transition to secondary school.

These events give Year 5s the opportunity to experience life at a secondary school, interact with our facilities, and meet some of our students. By participating in activities led by our Year 9 and 10 peer mentors and transition leaders, they gain valuable insights into the supportive and welcoming community at Bulmershe.

For Year 5s, these experiences are about more than just learning something new—they’re a chance to begin picturing themselves in a secondary setting and making informed decisions about their next steps. Currently, we offer after school Maths Club, Drama Club, Science Club and English Club along side an annual "Bake off" event. In addition we run a whole week of "Fish Bowl Days" where children can spend a whole day in Bulmershe, experiencing our lessons and exploring the school site.

Find out more about each of these different activities below.

Woodley Bake Off

Each year, as part of a cluster of Woodley Schools, The Bulmershe welcomes year 5s from a collection of Woodley Primaries to use our Food Technology facilities for a Bake Off!

These events are always assisted by our amazing year 9 transition leads, who are on hand to help younger children and ensure the day runs smoothly. We are always so proud of the feedback we receive each year about their leadership skills and kindness.
