Headteacher's Welcome

‘We are a thriving and vibrant community which inspires and empowers students to believe in themselves, be resilient and be ambitious.’

As Headteacher, I am very pleased to welcome you to The Bulmershe School, we are very proud of the superb opportunities we offer to all our students to develop in a community which fosters respect, responsibility, resilience and safety.

Our school has been described by Ofsted as one where students make 'rapid progress' which is 'based on outstanding teaching combined with a high level of care for the individual child'. However, we are never complacent and, as a school, we are constantly looking for ways to improve in order to serve our families and the community with the very best education has to offer.

Our school continues to make great strides in academic achievement; our results in 2024 saw nearly 50% of all GCSE at grade 5 or higher in English and Maths, with 69% graded 4 or higher, exceeding the national average.  Our A-Level results were very strong with over a fifth of all results receiving the top grades of A*-A, nearly half of all results between A*-B, and three quarters of all results were A*-C. All subjects have their own stories to celebrate but we are especially pleased with our results in Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Physics, Photography, German and Polish as these subjects have performed in line with the top 25% of the country. Our results reflect the efforts of our students as well as those of the talented and dedicated teaching and support staff we have here.

Many students have taken places at universities across the country, including two to Oxbridge and others have secured places on competitive apprenticeship programmes. This is a clear reflection of the hard work of our students, the partnership the school builds with parents and the talented and dedicated teaching and support staff we have here, for whom the overall focus is to help students achieve the success they deserve.

Striving for academic excellence is obviously very important but we equally value a student’s emotional wellbeing. We have a strong reputation for being a caring school and are very fortunate to have our own Wellbeing Centre which ensures students have time to reflect in a quiet space with a number of highly qualified pastoral colleagues dedicated to supporting students and their families.

There are a wide range of Leadership opportunities at the Bulmershe School, in fact, student voice is powerful. We work in partnership with our students who actively participate in the running and decision making of the school. We offer a rich choice of extracurricular opportunities, with year 7 having a ‘club fair’ in the first few weeks. We encourage all students to participate with the opportunities offered to them, with our goal being that they not only develop their self-confidence and resilience but that they also find a lifelong passion that they will carry on well beyond Bulmershe!

We are a thriving establishment serving the needs of the school population and indeed our local community, with our extensive facilities available in the evenings, at weekends and during school holiday time. The school serves as the hub for Berkshire Maestros as well as also being the Wokingham School’s hub for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths).

We have a Sixth Form independent study area and a 400 seat auditorium which houses professional lighting and sound equipment. Wokingham's state of the art Bulmershe Leisure Centre is made available to our students during the school day on our Bulmershe Campus.  Their investment of £14 million means that our students have access to a 4 court sports hall, 6 lane 25 metre swimming pool, teaching pool with moveable floor, 2 dance studios, 75 piece gym and dedicated changing rooms with a safeguarding access control system.

This is an exciting time for The Bulmershe School. We invite you to browse the website to learn more about the school, its principles and the way we work. We are always pleased to welcome visitors and we host a series of scheduled open mornings. If you are unable to make these, we will be delighted to show you round on a normal working day. Contact the school on 0118 9353353 and arrangements can be made for myself or one of my senior staff to give you a tour and answer any questions you may have.

We look forward to welcoming you,
