At The Bulmershe School, we are committed to preparing our students for the future, equipping them with the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in an ever-evolving job market. This week, we were thrilled to host our STEM Careers Fair, an inspiring event designed to introduce students in Years 9–13 to exciting opportunities in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths (STEM).

A Gateway to Exciting Careers

Our STEM Careers Fair welcomed some of the UK’s leading employers, giving students a unique opportunity to engage with industry professionals and explore different career paths. This year’s impressive lineup of companies included:

  • NHS – Showcasing diverse healthcare careers, from medical research to digital innovation in patient care.
  • AWE – Discussing cutting-edge engineering and physics roles in national defence and security.
  • Amazon – Offering insights into technology, logistics, and business innovation.
  • Johnson Matthey – Exploring sustainable technologies and advancements in chemistry and materials science.
  • Invesco – Presenting opportunities in financial services and investment management.
  • CGI – Highlighting careers in software development, IT consulting, and cybersecurity.
  • BCS (The Chartered Institute for IT) – Educating students about pathways in digital careers and IT professional development.
  • Nervecentre – Demonstrating how technology is transforming healthcare through innovative software solutions.

With representatives from these and many more organisations, our students gained first-hand knowledge about apprenticeships, graduate schemes, and career progression in STEM fields.

Empowering Students for the Future

The response from employers was overwhelmingly positive, with many commenting on our students’ curiosity, insightful questions, and fantastic behaviour. A particular highlight was the success of some of our Sixth Formers, with Year 13 student Abdullah Khan and four Year 12 students receiving job offers from Invesco and AWE as a direct result of the event!

This is a testament to the confidence and ambition we nurture at The Bulmershe School. Events like the STEM Careers Fair not only broaden our students’ horizons but also give them the confidence to pursue high-quality career opportunities in some of the UK’s most innovative industries.

A Growing Event with Big Aspirations

Following the success of this year’s fair, we are already planning to expand next year’s event, including an even wider range of careers beyond STEM. Our goal is to ensure that all students, regardless of their interests, have the chance to engage with top employers and explore exciting pathways for their future.

For families in Woodley, Reading, and Wokingham considering secondary schools and Sixth Form options, The Bulmershe School provides exceptional career guidance and enrichment opportunities. Our strong industry links and commitment to preparing students for life beyond the classroom set us apart as a school that truly supports students in achieving their aspirations.

A huge thank you to all the organisations who took part in this year’s fair. We look forward to welcoming even more employers next year and continuing to inspire our students to reach for the stars!
