Year 5 Wacky Ways With Words
A new Bulmershe Enrichment program launched this term: the fantastically imaginative workshop of Wacky Ways with Words. Miss Chowdhury led and taught a keen and creative group of Year 5 students in a fun session on creative writing skills using Roald Dahl’s made up words and a range of language techniques! The children joined from a variety of our feeder primary schools: Hillside, Highwood, Earley St Peter, Redlands, and Beechwood. The workshop included kinaesthetic activities using mystery bags full of sensory items to inspire their own neologisms (made up vocabulary) in the style of Roald Dahl; students used tinsel, gooey slime, and even soft pompoms for inspiration. The session became even more ‘wacky’ when they shared their hilarious and wonderfully imaginative descriptions of a ‘wacky’ sweet shop using their newly created words! It was great to have the Year 5 students’ expertise shared with us. Miss Chowdhury shared her own wacky description which left the students very entertained. Well done to all the participants who have received a certificate for their exemplary participation in Wacky Ways for Words. Look out for this session again with Miss Chowdhury next year!
