Bulmershe Summer Showcase 2026
Back
Our campus came alive last Tuesday evening as we hosted our annual arts festival: The Bulmershe Summer Showcase. This event celebrates the hard work of our students and highlights the creative energy that defines our school. For the first time, we welcomed Year 4 and Year 5 families from local primary schools to experience our campus ahead of the formal autumn events. It was wonderful to see so many visitors exploring our grounds in the sunshine, enjoying a relaxed look at our Creative and Performing Arts departments.
A Celebration of Creative and Performing Arts
We transformed B-Block and our art studios into gallery spaces to exhibit GCSE and A-level coursework. Visitors had the chance to browse photography portfolios and student-designed media pieces. The exhibition also featured practical projects such as sculptures and beautifully crafted lamps, showcasing the high standard of work our older students produce.
While the art galleries bustled with visitors, our performance spaces were equally busy. The canteen was converted into a performance area for our dance students, who performed solos and group pieces. Over in the drama studio, visitors watched student-devised and scripted plays, while the auditorium hosted a mix of musical performances. We wrapped up the night with an energetic set from our staff band, The Manic Street Teachers, who had the audience clapping along.
Building Confidence and Sharing Talents
Events like the summer showcase have a massive impact on student wellbeing. For our current students, having a public platform to exhibit their coursework or perform on stage builds long-term confidence. They learn to take pride in their hard work and experience the reward of sharing their talents with a supportive audience.
For our visiting primary school children, the evening offered an inspiring glimpse into their own academic future. Seeing the high calibre of GCSE and A-level portfolios gives younger pupils clear goals to aim for when they start secondary school.
A Nurturing Start to Secondary School Transition
Welcoming Year 4 and Year 5 families for an early preview of the school is a key part of our approach to secondary school transition. We understand that choosing the right school can feel like a significant decision for families searching for secondary schools in Woodley/Reading. By inviting families to a relaxed, informal event like our showcase, we hope to ease any anxieties and show the warm community spirit that makes us one of the best secondary schools near me.
Through these extra-curricular opportunities, we encourage our students to develop their voices and explore their passions outside the traditional classroom. This focus on creative expression is central to the Bulmershe way, helping students build independence and self-assurance for their future careers.
Thank You to Our School Community
We would like to say a significant thank you to our Creative and Performing Arts teams for organising such a memorable evening. We are also grateful to the many staff members who volunteered their time to help run the event, sell ice creams and serve cold drinks to keep everyone cool in the summer heat. Most of all, we thank our talented students whose dedication made the night so special.
