Year 3 Bushcraft Taster
BackOn Thursday, 28th November, The Bulmershe School was delighted to welcome 60 enthusiastic Year 3 students from our neighbours at Highwood Primary School for a special Bushcraft adventure.
Bushcraft is a highlight of the Bulmershe experience, offering Year 7 students the chance to attend a week-long camp packed with exciting activities such as shelter building, archery, axe throwing, wood carving, open-fire cooking, and much more. This visit gave the Year 3s a taste of what makes Bushcraft so unforgettable.
Fresh from a day of learning about the Stone Age, the Highwood pupils joined a group of helpful Year 9 Bulmershe students on our school field to explore the art of fire-making with Dr Harris. The children listened intently as he explained the essential elements of creating a fire and then set off on a mission to collect wood for fuel. Once the fire was crackling, Dr Harris demonstrated how to nurture the flames using kindling and larger logs.
And, of course, no campfire is complete without marshmallows! One by one, the Year 3s toasted their marshmallows to perfection, delighting in the sticky, gooey treat. By the end of the afternoon, there were smiles all around and fingers being licked clean!
It was a crisp, sunny November day, and the Year 3s impressed us with their enthusiasm and excellent behaviour. A big thank you to Highwood Primary for joining us, Dr Harris for his expertise, and our brilliant Year 9s for helping make the day so special. We can’t wait to see these young adventurers again in the future!
